What I did not know about the Niger Delta oil spills
Submitted by peter on Thu, 07/29/2010 - 07:37http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_issues_in_the_Niger_Delta
If we think the BP gulf spill is bad. We don't know the price Nigerians pay practically every day. Sabotage accounts for about a quarter of the leaks. Half seems caused by "corrosion of pipelines and tankers". If you think we pay too much for our oil related products, what do the people of Nigeria pay?
If we pay more for our oil related products, it would not go to better environment controls, it would go to the Nigerian government and not the people who could benefit. So, what can be done?

Woody Guthrie
Submitted by peter on Wed, 07/14/2010 - 07:29
According to "The Writer's Almanac" he was born on this day in 1913. According to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woody_Guthrie he was born on this day in 1912.
Either way, here are some missing lyrics:

- As I went walking, I saw a sign there,
- And on the sign there, It said "no trespassing." [In another version, the sign reads "Private Property"]
- But on the other side, it didn't say nothing!
- That side was made for you and me.
- In the squares of the city, In the shadow of a steeple;
- By the relief office, I'd seen my people.
- As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking,
- Is this land made for you and me?

BP makes me sick.
Submitted by peter on Fri, 07/09/2010 - 21:01To a certain degree Obama's administration makes me sick. This web site:
is where we can sign up to ask Obama to get BP to allow workers to wear protective gear. It is really a shame how ineffective we are in dealing with this crisis.
Obameter from PolitiFact.com. What do you think of it?
Submitted by peter on Tue, 07/06/2010 - 16:08I heard about the "RightNetwork" on NPR's "All Things Considered" today. I went to their you tube site. The videos are not really that interesting. Yet, I heard Kelsey Grammer say that more taxes are wrong. It made me think why people think Obama has raised taxes. I found this site from PolitiFact. They seem to think that Obama actually cut taxes for working Americans.

Bill Clinton endorses Romanoff
Submitted by peter on Wed, 06/30/2010 - 07:26I don't think Romanoff should have run against Senator Bennet, to me they are both going to be basically the same. I believe that Bill Clinton has not done our state any favors.
As a RINO I support neither Norton or Buck. Come November I will be supporting the Democratic candidate whomever it might be.
The polls show a very close race. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2010/senate/2010_colorado_senate...
"F" is for "fat" report
Submitted by peter on Tue, 06/29/2010 - 18:32http://healthyamericans.org/reports/obesity2010/ shows that Colorado is still the thinnest state in the USA. Alas, Coloradans of today are much fatter than we were a few years ago. The entire nation is getting fatter, including Colorado.
"Do you want fries with that?"

It shows how large the oil spill is by moving it via Google Maps.
When you put it in Teaneck, NJ it goes from Boston to Philadelphia.

What should we do about BP?
Submitted by peter on Thu, 06/17/2010 - 16:04This is a link I got from OFA: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/noapologies
BP made a huge mistake. How we are handling it is probably a mistake as well. I don't know.

Evidently the buzzing sound is people blowing into their Vuvuzela's they bought from street vendors. It is so annoying I can't stand to listen to the games.
I would love to have them banned. If not banned at least have ABC/ESPN use active noise control. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_noise_control
I have not tried it but for about 3 euros you can download this: http://www.antivuvuzelafilter.com/
Do something about the oil spills
Submitted by peter on Sat, 06/12/2010 - 11:13Hello,
http://ga3.org/campaign/ecea is a link to change the law in the USA to make sure the management and shareholders of BP are held accountable.
"Please urge your members of Congress to support Sen. Patrick Leahy's Environmental Crimes Enforcement Act (ECEA) to make restitution for violations of the Clean Water Act mandatory and increase criminal sentences for violators."
While it is from Leahy who probably should have taken Cheney's advice, he decided to try and make a difference. I respect that. Who is against clean water?
The Nuclear Tipping Point
Submitted by peter on Thu, 06/10/2010 - 14:35
I heard of this site on "The Colbert Report"(1). Sen. Sam Nunn was on to promote a free video on DVD(2). Free because according to Nunn, Warren Buffett and Ted Turner are backing the effort enough to be mentioned. My good friend George Schultz is part of the "four"(3).
What does anyone think about nuclear proliferation?
I'm an optimist in thinking we might actually be able to control the use of such weapons. Some once told me I am a good problem pointer outer. I know nukes are a problem and I have no idea how to solve it. So, I will be getting the DVD!

EB White's rules
Submitted by peter on Sun, 06/06/2010 - 13:44While listening to Stephen Cobert on his show "The Cobert Report" he mentioned the E.B White's (1) rule # 2 "In a series of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a comma after each term except the last." He was interviewing "Vampire Weekend"(2).
I don't follow that rule often. Many of you think I probably don't follow any rules, that is true!

My Mother reminded in a voice mail that it is Victoria Day in Canada
Submitted by peter on Mon, 05/24/2010 - 16:22
"Victoria Day (in French: Fête de la Reine) is a federal Canadian statutory holiday celebrated on the last Monday before or on May 24, in honour of both Queen Victoria's birthday and the current reigning Canadian sovereign's official birthday, and is also considered an informal mark of the beginning of the summer season."
She had a nice poem as well.
