I think this is the way to go...

HP, it looks like your boyfriend is back in action!

Brady Quinn has signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins! His career lives on! I think this makes seven teams in total for him. Quinn last played Dec. 30, 2012, with Kansas City. He spent time last season with Seattle, St. Louis and the New York Jets, though did not appear with any of those clubs.

Have you followed his tweets?

Hello, HP, this is the Beloit College Alumni Association calling...

...and we're hoping to count on your increased commitment this year.

As a passionate Buccaneer fan, we're sure you've noticed the splash that former Buccaneer star Derek Carrer made last Thursday:

Derek Carrer, TE, San Francisco

"The former Edgerton and Beloit College athlete had five tackle assists in a 23-3 loss to Baltimore."

Thanks again for "raising your game" this year for the Beloit College Alumni Association - see you at Homecoming!

Apple software...

It's interesting that Apple provides all OSX releases free of charge, awesome programs like GarageBand free of charge, but then wants $99 to for access to iOS developer tools such as Xcode. I'm thinking about taking the plunge. Oh, the tools include iOS Simulator: "Run, test, and debug your application locally on your Mac using a simulated iPhone and iPad."

So, I guess one doesn't need an Apple mobile device for development after all...

There are numerous television channels devoted to religion. So, why not an atheist channel?

Free-thinkers, as atheists style themselves, remain almost bizarrely under-represented in American public life and discourse. There is not a single openly declared atheist among the 535 members of Congress, and it is conventional electoral wisdom that the President of the United States has to be a believer.

Depending on where you draw the line between militant atheist and "fuzzy faithful", about 20 per cent of Americans are practically speaking non-believers – that means there should, proportionally speaking, be 107 members of Congress to represent their beliefs, or lack of it.

By that measure, that America's atheists have a long way to go. But as has been seen in attitudes to the gay and lesbian world over the last decade, things can change quickly, and in the case of non-belief there is a latent pressure out there just waiting for recognition.

MN has named it's first "marijuana director"

Michelle Larson has less than a year to set up the program that will regulate the new medicine. So far, two people have applied to be the state suppliers. I saw an interview with one of them today. He said that, if selected, he would solicit someone "from Colorado" to come in and run the growing operation. I already submitted the name of "someone" from Colorado for the job.

4th Annual TFYC benefit is this Friday...

This is the charity golf event that Wendy and I help plan and operate every year to benefit Angel Foundation. Our friend, Paul Joern, passed away in 2010 after a year and a half struggle with melanoma. So, his friends and family put on this event in his memory every year. It's done pretty well - about 25,000 per year.

Samsung Leaves Moore's Law Behind

http://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelkanellos/2013/08/14/with-3d-chips-sam...

Until now. Transistor shrinkage has gone on so long that the memory cells in flash memory chips are getting too close to another. When memory cells are 30 nanometers apart, Jung noted, signals don’t mix. When they are only 10 nanometers apart, signals can mix and data can get corrupted. Currently, the industry designs chips with 20 nanometer elements.

The stack transistors are connected by long, thin columns that connect the bottom layers to the outside world. 2.5 billion of these channels can fit on a fingertip.

Toshiba and others are working on 3D chips as well, but Samsung clearly has a lead. And in components, even a small lead can pay huge dividends.

But for the moment, Samsung gets to take a victory lap that’s been forty years in the making.

Say what?

There were so many jaw-dropping factoids in the weekend Star Tribune article revealing what Minneapolis gave away to get the 2018 Super Bowl game that it’s hard to know where to begin. So let’s begin with the conclusion: Politicians either don’t know what’s going on in their own city, or they’re disingenuous in their denials of knowing what’s going on in their own city.

“This is wrong,” former Gov. Arne Carlson said after reading the article. “This is a huge public event. It should be transparent. We should know how the NFL operates.”

This is how the NFL operates. The league wants police protection for nothing, free hotels, great cellphone reception, free parking and free media coverage, among dozens of other perks.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges didn’t know what was in the deal.

“We haven’t seen the bid, so we don’t know what was agreed to,” said Kate Brickman, Hodges’ spokeswoman.

Google Pressure Cookers and Backpacks, Get a Visit from the Feds

Michele Catalano was looking for information online about pressure cookers. Her husband, in the same time frame, was Googling backpacks. Wednesday morning, six men from a joint terrorism task force showed up at their house to see if they were terrorists. Which begs the question: How'd the government know what they were Googling?

Catalano (who is a professional writer) describes the tension of that visit.

[T]hey were peppering my husband with questions. Where is he from? Where are his parents from? They asked about me, where was I, where do I work, where do my parents live. Do you have any bombs, they asked. Do you own a pressure cooker? My husband said no, but we have a rice cooker. Can you make a bomb with that? My husband said no, my wife uses it to make quinoa. What the hell is quinoa, they asked. ...

Have you ever looked up how to make a pressure cooker bomb? My husband, ever the oppositional kind, asked them if they themselves weren’t curious as to how a pressure cooker bomb works, if they ever looked it up. Two of them admitted they did.

Dude - it's over...

Michael Kors, which markets itself as a brand for the jet set, may soon be in for a rough ride.

For the first time since going public in late 2011, shares of the fashion company appeared at risk of declining on the day of an earnings release. The stock traded down as much as 4 percent Wednesday morning and was up slightly in midday trading. That's a far cry from the average gain of 8 percent over the previous eight reporting days, according to FactSet.

" . . . and I WELCOME their hatred"

President Obama will be going before Congress tonight to make a speech. I hope what he has to say will piss a lot of people off.

Of course, he doesn't have to say anything in order to piss a lot of people off - the fact that he still draws breath is, evidently, enough to do that.

Which in some ways puts him in a very enviable position.

Nothing the president says about health care reform today can make his position any worse among those who already hate him.

So he might as well say the right things.

On October 31, 1936, President Franklin Roosevelt gave a speech at New York's Madison Square Garden. The general election was less than a week away. Roosevelt was wrapping up his re-election campaign at the end of his first term, a term in which he had enraged certain moneyed interests - enraged them to the point that they actually plotted a coup against him.

But Roosevelt knew that the people of the United States were behind him. And the speech he gave that night in New York reflected his certainty:

EU clears $35 billion Omnicom, Publicis merger

"BRUSSELS (Reuters) - EU antitrust regulators said on Thursday they had cleared the $35 billion merger of U.S. advertising agency Omnicom and French peer Publicis without conditions.

The deal creates the world's biggest advertising agency to compete better with the likes of Google and Facebook in online ad sales. Omnicom now ranks second behind leader WPP , with Publicis in third place.

Analysts had expected the deal to trigger tough antitrust scrutiny because of the combined company's strong market share and possible concerns from major clients."

Anyone who lives in Denver, Colorado knows it is home to many activities. Most of them involve the outdoors and dogs. Also any anyone who loves Denver and dogs knows that spending time outdoors with your dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences. However as dog ownership has grown many cities have put a short leash on dog owners with their leash laws. But dogs need to RUN!!!! Luckily Denver (and its surrounding communities) knows this and has expanded the use of dog parks to let your little Fido run. This website is dedicated to help you find Denver's dog parks and its off leash areas.
